Journalism Scholars visit NYC during mini-reunion

As most of you know, I received a $1000 scholarship last month called Al Neuharth's Free Spirit Journalism Scholarship. When I applied for the scholarship a few months back, I submitted a couple of essays, my clips, letters of recommendation, and other necessities that I probably don't recall.

Two high school, aspiring journalists, male and female from every state were selected to receive the scholarship and an all expenses paid trip to Washington, D.C. When I arrived in Washington, D.C., I didn't know what to expect. Long story short, I made many new friends who I'm staying in touch with.

Most recently, Kyle Rogers, a journalist from Pennsylvania is visiting Long Island, New York this weekend and Jennifer Adams, from South Dakota, will here in May. Today, we met up with other scholars from the conference in New York City. It was extremely nice to be able to see our fellow scholars today- Snigdha, the female recipient from New York and Carol, New Jersey. We visited TODAY in New York which is aired on your local NBC station, ate official NY pizza, went to central park and walked around aimlessly. Coincidentally, the Pope was in town so we stood on the side of a street in Manhattan for three hours to see him.

When Mr. Rogers arrived here on Friday evening, we decided to take a trip out to East Hampton and Montauk. Luckily, we were able to meet Billy Joel in East Hampton. It was very cool because with mic. in hand, he sang me a song about a piano man.

We shall see what tomorrow brings us...

Peace, love, and happiness!
